image5Hypertension is one of the most important causes of premature deaths worldwide and the problem is growing.  In 2025, an estimated 1.56 billion adults will be living with hypertension, according to WHO Regional Office for South East Asia (2012).  It is also the leading cause of cardiovascular disease worldwide.  In fact, high blood pressure is called the “the silent killer” because it often has no warning signs or symptoms.  Many people do not realize they have it – that is why it’s important to get your blood pressure checked regularly.

With its commitment in providing the best possible medical care to our patients in the region, MMMC Cardiovascular Unit has launched a new service modality that will help our Cardiologists and Physicians collect 24-hour blood pressure measurements.  In clinic or home blood pressure measurements are not representative of blood pressure readings throughout the 24-hour day.  Several studies have shown that ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, when compared to clinic or home blood pressure measurements, is superior in predicting target organ damage, morbid events or cardiovascular risk.
